Mount Langley at 14,042 ranks number nine on the list of California fourteener's when it comes to altitude, but it's relative height position only tells part of the story, for the slopes of Langley contain some of the most beautiful lakes and meadows anywhere to be found in the Sierra's. So take a few minutes and view the photos of the Cottonwood lakes area and enjoy the views from the Summit.
One of the most classic alpine peaks in all of North America is the Grand Teton. Climbers have been drawn to this spectacular mountain for over 100 years. The peak is located in Wyoming, United States but people from all over the world travel large distances to climb it's over 35 routes and 50 variations. Most visitors simply view this peak from the safety of their vehicles, but here at Timberline Trails we take you to the top via the Owens Spalding Route.
Starlight Peak located in the California Sierra's has (in many mountaineers opinion) the most spectacular summit in all the range. The single rock monolith standing over 30 in height tappers to an apex point of only two feet in diameter. The Bishop Trail Pass trail is another beautiful pathway in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, and is the main trail that is used for the southwest approach to this peak. Mount Moran in the Grand Teton National Park, is a peak that ranks high on the mountaineers list of peaks to bag. All routes to the summit are technical, and the CMC (Colorado Mountain Club) route is featured here. With a spectacular hanging glacier that can be viewed from the valley floor and the awe inspiring features that make up it's flanks, it is no wonder that it is one of the most photographed peaks in all of North America.
The Sierra Nevada Mountain Range featured here is certainly one of the most fantastic mountain ranges in all world. It is a land of dramatic contrasts and remarkable beauty. The North Palisade is one of the most sought after summits in all the Sierra Nevada. This alpine peak has it all. A beautiful approach with glacial lakes, meadows, and wild flowers in season; contains the largest glacier in the range; a snow and ice chute known as the "U notch couloir", and granite rock that will challenge the best of climbers. The approach taken on this journey is the North Fork of Big Pine Creek, and if you decide to ever climb this peak, you will be treated to some of the finest alpine climbing in all of mountaineering. Bodie, California is a western ghost town located high in the mountains and contains more of it's original unaltered structures than any other western ghost town to be found anywhere. Fall Colors in Colorado in 2006 were very exciting due to the early snowfall. I found that an area could be stunning one day and gone the next if a storm passed through during the night. This made it so there was no time to waste during times of intermittent sunshine. But all this is what makes landscape photography so exciting. Polemonium Peak is considered by some to be just a bump on the ridge of the Palisade Crest, and not worthy to be called a "California Fourteener" But this bump on the ridge offers the mountaineer an excellent opportunity to experience a fine alpine climb by any climbers standards. No easy route to the top, mixed terrain, and a spectacular view from it's summit make this a climb worth considering. This section also offers great aerial views of key climbing sections for both this peak and North Palisade.
Grand Teton National Park - in Wyoming, is one of the most beautiful parks in all of North America. With activities such as kayaking, fly-fishing, horseback riding, rafting, scenic hiking, and challenging climbing on sound rock, there is something for everyone. Whereas most other ranges are obscured by foothills, the Tetons rise abruptly as much as 7,000 feet from the flat plains of Jackson Hole and culminate in the 13,770 foot summit of Grand Teton.
